A High-Current 12V Battery for Correctly Sized DC Systems

This 12.8V 200Ah lithium battery provides 2.56kWh of nominal LiFePO4 energy together with a 200A continuous discharge rating. It is relevant to compatible inverter, UPS and DC power systems where current capability is as important as stored energy.

At a low system voltage, higher inverter power can create substantial battery-side current. The continuous load, minimum operating voltage, cable length and connection resistance should therefore be calculated before the battery is selected.

Current Path from Battery to Load

The current path includes the M8 battery terminals, cable lugs, conductors, fuse or breaker, disconnect device and inverter terminals. Every component must be suitable for the configured continuous current.

The maximum continuous discharge current is 200A. The 300A value is limited to one second and should not be used as the design current for cables, busbars or protective devices.

Cable Sizing

Conductor size should be selected from continuous current, cable length, installation method and allowable voltage drop.

Protection Coordination

External fuses and breakers should protect the cables and equipment while remaining compatible with normal operating current.

Charging at up to 100A

The battery supports up to 100A of continuous charging. This value is a maximum limit rather than a required charging rate. The actual setting may be lower depending on available solar power, charger capacity and desired charging time.

The charger should support the 10.0–14.6Vdc battery window and a 14.0V floating-charge setting. Charger compatibility should be confirmed rather than assuming that every 12V lead-acid charger is suitable.

BMS Response and System Design

The integrated BMS provides protection against overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, short circuit and overtemperature. These protections act as battery operating boundaries.

A BMS event can stop battery output when limits are exceeded. The inverter and load should therefore be configured to operate within the documented voltage and current range instead of relying on protective shutdown as normal control.
