Replacing Capacity, Not Only Battery Voltage

This 12.8V 314Ah IP65 lithium battery provides approximately 4.02kWh of nominal LiFePO4 energy. It can be evaluated for high-capacity 12V lead-acid replacement projects where the charger, load current, physical space and cable system are compatible.

A replacement decision should not be based only on both products being described as 12V batteries. Lithium and lead-acid systems can use different charging profiles, voltage limits and protection behavior.

Replacement Compatibility Checklist

1. Confirm that the charger supports the 10.0–14.6Vdc operating range and 14.0V floating-charge setting.

2. Compare the 523 × 269 × 218mm enclosure with the existing battery compartment.

3. Check whether the existing cables and protection equipment are suitable for the planned current.

4. Verify the M8 terminal location, cable-lug size and polarity arrangement before installation.

Current Limits in a Replacement System

The battery supports up to 100A continuous charging and 200A continuous discharge. These values are maximum battery limits and should be compared with the charger and load requirements.

The one-second pulse specification is 300A. This short-duration value may support a compatible brief startup condition but must not be used as the continuous cable or breaker rating.

BMS Behavior During Conversion

The integrated BMS protects against overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, short circuit and overtemperature. Unlike a lead-acid battery, the lithium battery may disconnect its output when a protection threshold is reached.

The connected equipment should therefore operate within the battery limits without depending on repeated BMS shutdowns. Low-voltage settings and charger parameters should be configured correctly.

IP65 does not remove the need to protect terminal connections, cable lugs and external fuses or breakers.
